snow falling...
In Chinese medical philosophy, the winter signifies the time of going inward. It is the time of "ultimate Yin". We are moving from Autumn, the time of erratic change and movement to Winter, the slow and solemn slumber of stillness.
It is interesting how the holidays begin with "Black Friday". A day when chaotic shoppers can run around furiously buying more than they can potentially afford just because they are getting a "deal". They should call it "Red Friday" as this more accurately reflects most bank accounts!
Depletion. n.
The use or consumption of a resource, especially a natural resource, faster than it is replenished. In this case, the "natural resource" is our finances, but in the essence of Chinese medicine, this is a great metaphor for the drastic reduction of our internal energy.
If you look at natural animal habitats, this is the time where dens are being made and food is being gathered in preparation for the spell of a long winter. (Spell: a bewitched state). Can you recall being entranced while watching snow fall and aware of how it sounds silent? This quietude is the opposite of chaos. This silence is where healing takes place. This stillness is where the present moment resides.
So, in your coming month of fury and chaos, allow yourself to take some breaths and stop to become aware of the stillness.
